Bring your questions! \nSharon Coleman writes for Poetry Flash\, co-curates the reading series Lyrics & Dirges\, co-directs the Berkeley Poetry Festival. She’s the author of a chapbook Half Circle and a book of micro-fiction\, Paris Blinks. She’s taught composition\, poetry writing\, creative writing\, and production & publication at Berkeley City College for 17 years and directs their art and literary journal\, Milvia Street. \nPeter Goodman is president and publisher of Stone Bridge Press. He established Stone Bridge in 1989 which specializes in books about Asia and was Board Chair of the Independent Books Publishers Association from 2015-2017. DESCRIPTION:Warrior Women is the story of Madonna Thunder Hawk\, an American Indian Movement (AIM) leader who\, in the 1970s\, shaped a group of AIM activists’ children – including her daughter Marcy – into the “We Will Remember” Survival School as a Native alternative to government-run education.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis film explores what it means to navigate a movement and motherhood and how activist legacies are passed down and transformed from generation to generation in the context of colonizing government that meets Native resistance with violence. \nPlease mark Native American Heritage month by joining us for a screening of this film\, which was the 2018 selection of the San Francisco American Indian Festival\, the winner of best doc feature American Indian Film Festival 2018 and which was the official selection of 22 other film festivals.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us when Dena Spatz talks about applying data science to inform avian conservation on islands. Dr. Spatz leads a database building project of the world’s active seabird restoration efforts\, tracking the methods and outcomes and conservation efforts\, to inform best-practices and help expand the conservation effort.\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Spatz received her PHD from the Coastal Conservation Lab at UC Santa Cruz where she examined the biogeography of threatened island birds\, mammals\, amphibians\, and reptiles\, and opportunities for their conservation and is currently a Senior Conservation Scientist at Pacific Rim Conservation (PRC). The mission of PRC is to maintain and restore native bird diversity\, populations\, and habitats in Hawaii and across the Pacific region. PRC primarily focuses on seabird conservation and translocation of populations into predator-free habitats.
